James D. Roberts is a commercial litigation attorney. He is experienced in handling a wide variety of commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, real estate and construction-related litigation, landlord, tenant and condominium disputes, land use and zoning disputes, class action defense, attorney and accountant malpractice litigation, franchise litigation and employment disputes. His experience includes representing clients in both state and federal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution.
Jim was the winner of the 1989 Scribes Award at The John Marshall Law School.
Jim has successfully handled many cases in the federal and state courts, at both the trial court level and on appeal. He has also successfully arbitrated claims before the American Arbitration Association and has been involved in numerous mediations.
Prior to forming Chen Roberts, Jim was a partner at the law firm of DLA Piper US LLP and its legacy firms, including Rudnick & Wolfe.
Notable cases include: Rowe Entertainment, Inc. v. William Morris Agency, Inc. – Successfully represented a national concert promotion company in a $700 million antitrust and race discrimination lawsuit that was included in Crain’s List 2005’s Big Litigation, Crain’s Chicago Business – September 19, 2005.
